New insecticide groups have the potential to significantly change how insects are managed in turf! For most lawns and grounds, a single, well-timed application can control all major insects and reduced risk insecticides are good options for customers desiring a less toxic approach. This session will review major turf insects, their biology and management . . . with and without insecticides.
Turfgrass diseases are rarely controlled in lawns and grounds, primarily due to expense. This session will discuss cultural approaches to managing most of these diseases in addition to reviewing currently registered fungicides and their use strategies.
Several new combination herbicide products have been released in recent years for the control of crabgrass and broadleaf weeds. There are also new reduced risk options available to control broadleaf weeds. All of the currently registered herbicide chemistries for cool season turfgrass will be discussed, as well as strategies for proper usage. New products and fertilization strategies will be discussed, particularly in the context of the increasing controversies associated with the use of phosphorus containing fertilizers.
