The Great Plant Health Care Debate: Urban Soils and Tree Roots

Humans often adversely affect plant health by alteration of the growing conditions and the environment. This is especially true for urban landscaping where soils are texturally inhospitable, exhibit the incorrect pH, are nutritionally deficient and are seriously compacted. An adverse urban environment usually leads to poor tree establishment or the gradual decline in newly established or grandfathered trees. With plant decline, various opportunistic insects and diseases often attack weakened, stressed trees to finish the job. For the various issues involved in plant decline caused by urban soils, learn about corrective measures that may include pesticide, cultural and environmental inputs to prevent the urban landscape dilemma and assist in plant recovery.
