The New Z133, From A to Z

Speakers: Dr. John Ball, Ph.D., South Dakota State University
Randall Miller, Director of Research & Development, CNUC
This material was prepared under a Consultation Education & Training (CET) Grant awarded by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA)
Tuesday, August 14, 2018 (8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
Tree work is among the most hazardous professions in the United States with an incident rate far higher than almost all other industries.  The new Z133 Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations is out, and following these standards not only is a government requirement, they can protect the lives of your workers.  There are many changes in the standard from the Z133 2012 edition to reflect the changes in equipment and practices. This one-day workshop will cover all the key changes in working near electrical conductors, aerial lift operations, chain saw use, manual tree felling, and climbing, among others.  These changes, and how they can increase our safety and productivity, will be discussed and demonstrated in an interactive format.

John Ball is a professor of forestry from South Dakota State University. He is also an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, a TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional, and serves on the Z133 committee. Dr. Ball has been involved in tree workers safety issues for more than two decades.
Randall Miller is director of research and development at CNUC. He retired in May 2017 as Director of Vegetation Management after 23 years at PacifiCorp. He is a Board Certified Master Arborist and Certified Utility Specialist. Randy speaks and writes widely on arboricultural topics.
