Most people agree that mosquitoes are a serious pest. What people may not realize is that they are also vectors for some serious diseases. This year in Michigan, mosquitoes collected in Bay County tested positive for Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Laboratories. Michigan mosquitoes are "host" to FIVE more viruses. World-wide, over one million people DIE EACH YEAR from mosquito-borne illnesses! In Michigan we have about 65 species of mosquitoes in 5 different “groups”. In this class learn the life cycle of these pests, control methods and laws & regulations governing mosquito control.
