Webinar: Oak Wilt Management Options: The Facts & The Truth

Tuesday, May 18, 2021 (8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.)
Speaker:  Dr. Dave Roberts, The Plant Doctor, LLC

CEUs: 2-MDA (2, 3B, or 6), 2-ISA Requested

Oak Wilt is a lethal disease that continues to increase in incidence in Michigan with each passing year. Unfortunately, as with other major tree issues in Michigan (i.e. The Emerald Ash Borer, Dutch Elm Disease, etc.), confusion and controversy often take center stage in lieu of facts and reality. Oak Wilt can cause significant property value losses as well as initiate significant expenditures for its remediation. This informative two-hour session will concentrate on Oak Wilt remediation with discussion of all options to hopefully minimize much of the controversy and confusion surrounding this disease.  As an industry, it is prudent for us to learn the proper techniques for diagnosis and avoidance as management tools. For established Oak Wilt sites, Dr. Roberts will discuss the pros and cons of the several major options in use in Michigan at this time. Traditional methods of Oak Wilt containment and eradication may not only be costly to implement, but they may also be destructive and disruptive to other species of trees and landscape plants in Michigan’s diverse urban forests and woodlands where most of us work. With three degrees in Plant Pathology, Dr. Roberts will share his expertise garnered over more than 36 years, beginning with his lab work and his creation of field management techniques and protocols in the early to mid-1980s. Special attention will be devoted to his Tier Tree Model for Root Graft Disruption, Tree Injections, and his newer and most economical method of remediation-the Glyphosate Stump Cup Technique.
If you manage landscapes with Oaks, this is a must-attend webinar!
