Not Your Average "Walk In The Park"
Thursday, June 30, 2022 (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
Speaker: Gary Eichen, Assistant Service Line Director, SavATree
CEUs: 3-MDA (Priv/Comm Core, 2, 3B or 6) 3-ISA
During this walk we will see some of the “usual suspects” (insects & diseases) that Michigan always seems to provide. However, we will also look at trees that have unique genetic traits. We will look at decay organisms, how they affect trees and how they “grow” within trees. We will learn about CODIT (Compartmentalization of Decay in Trees) the model of tree wound compartmentalization created by Dr. Alex Shigo of the USFS. You will see a first-hand demonstration of the IML-RESI F600 resistograph, which is capable of determining the presence of decay columns in trees. This walk will give you a different perspective on these diverse and complex organisms.
